По сути, эта мечта доводит до крайности одну из 2 принципиальных эстетических позиций, возможных в кинематографе: учитывая неизбежное дробление на части кинематографического произведения, либо акцентировать это дробление и принять его за отправную точку в эстетических поисках, сделав ставку на монтаж и умножение пространств, либо отрицать его и разрабатывать цельное повествование, где множество пространств сливаются в одно, все планы – в один-единственный план.Гипнотический кинематограф (Ланг, Преминджер, Сиодмак и др.), достигший расцвета в США в 40-е гг., поднял эту тенденцию до вершин утонченности, развив применение длинного плана. И не удивительно, что Хичкок, воспринимающий каждый фильм как вызов, упражнение в стиле, новый способ ошарашить публику, был в это время охвачен желанием расширить возможности длинного плана до масштабов целого фильма. Хичкок – прагматик, формалист, но не эстет; он берется решить эту задачу поначалу подойдя к ней буквально: один план – это один план; т. е. место действия не изменяется; сохраняется единство времени; нет ни одной заметной глазу склейки (что влечет за собой использование хитроумных уловок и визуальных эффектов, поскольку в силу технических ограничений ни один план не может длиться дольше 10 мин). Таким образом, этот вызов приводит нас к самому замкнутому и клаустрофобичному варианту театра, тогда как в понимании, например, Преминджера мечта о фильме, снятом одним планом, принимает космические масштабы: необходимо пробить стены, чтобы проникнуть во все уголки реальности и запечатлеть ее в едином однородном потоке и в непрерывном пространстве.Но вот курьез: в Веревке выбранная позиция и изначальная логика теряются на полпути или, если угодно, уступают место гармоничному компромиссу. Если средний кинофильм включает в себя от 200 до 600 планов, Веревка состоит лишь из 11 (их хронометраж, соответственно – 1'54", 9'36", 7'51", 7'18", 7'09", 9'57", 7'36", 7'47", 10', 4'36", 5'39"). 10 смен плана происходят следующим образом: 1) смена плана совпадает со сменой места действия (единственный случай в этом фильме: мы переходим с улицы в интерьер здания); 2) через спину Джона Долла; 3) обычно; 4) через спину Дагласа Дика; 5) обычно; 6) через спину Джона Долла; 7) обычно; 8) через спину Джона Долла; 9) обычно; 10) через крышку сундука. Между прочим, этот фильм, отрицающий монтаж, весьма богат на съемки с разных точек и характерен свободой в передвижениях и освоении пространства. В этом он тоже идет наперекор оптической концепции длинного плана в понимании Преминджера, главная цель которой – сделать так, чтобы зритель забыл о существовании камеры. Здесь же присутствие камеры очень ощутимо от начала и до самого конца: она, как и всегда у Хичкока, становится главным героем истории, увлекая за собой покорного и довольного зрителя.С наслаждением выстроенное Хичкоком замкнутое пространство, где складные переборки и мебель на колесиках облегчают перемещения камеры, включает в себя самый красивый «задник» в истории кино (макет Нью-Йорка, постепенно погружающегося в ночной мрак) и имеет в итоге лишь одну цель: удивительным образом подчеркнуть напряжение и тревогу, возникающие у зрителя. Ни в каком другом фильме Хичкока, за исключением Психопата, Psycho( где тревога периодически берет верх над ужасом), не была создана столь удушливая атмосфера. Гнусность 2 убийц подчеркивается заурядностью прочих персонажей (отметим, что Хичкок не вложил в их уста ни одного сколько-нибудь примечательного диалога). Даже отец, которого Хичкок выделяет среди окружающей его посредственности, усиливает разлитую по фильму тревогу, поскольку тоже, как и сам мертвец, является жалкой и беспомощной жертвой этого абсурдного кровопролития. Но больше всего вины, по мнению Хичкока, лежит на профессоре, персонаже Джеймса Стюарта. В этом отношении Веревка – фильм в каком-то смысле исключительный по сравнению с остальными картинами мастера: зритель не может себя идентицифировать ни с одним действующим лицом, разве что с мертвецом в сундуке, ждущим (?) разоблачения и осуждения своих убийц. В остальном же Веревка занимает центральное место в системе ценностей Хичкока, потому что укрепляет традиционную, принципиально универсалистскую мораль режиссера и отрицает, считая чудовищным извращением, всякую индивидуальную, элитарную мораль, предоставляющую одному человеку или категории людей отдельное место в обществе. Фильм также подчеркивает ответственность каждого интеллектуала, чьи слова, статьи, теории и парадоксы должны рассматриваться им самим и другими с не меньшей серьезностью, нежели его поступки. Видно, что фильм ничуть не склонен шутить. Это еще одна сторона тайны Хичкока: никто до него не осмеливался быть настолько серьезным, оставаясь при этом в русле развлекательного кино. -
